A 31-year-old man, Sunday Jimoh, tragically lost his life after drowning in a well while attempting to retrieve a fallen phone in the Oja-Odan area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2025, around 10:00 a.m.
The state police spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the report was filed by a resident, Kabiru Aladeshayi Ayigbere, who witnessed the events leading to the tragedy.

She explained that the witness, Aladeshayi, had left momentarily, only to return and discover that Jimoh had entered the well and drowned.
Upon receiving the report, police detectives swiftly arrived at the scene, and emergency responders were contacted to recover the body.
Odutola confirmed that a preliminary investigation found no signs of foul play, describing the incident as an unfortunate accident.
“The family of the deceased has been notified, and they have requested to bury him in accordance with Muslim rites,” she added.
The Ogun State Police Command extended its condolences to Jimoh’s family and urged the public to exercise caution when faced with life-threatening situations.
