The All Progressives Congress has dismissed allegations of interference in the internal affairs of the African Democratic Congress, insisting that the opposition party’s leadership crisis is self-inflicted and rooted in internal failures.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated this on Tuesday while speaking on a current affairs programme, Frontline, on Eagle 102.5 FM in Ilese-Ijebu, Ogun State.

Morka was reacting to claims by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who had alleged that external political forces were working to destabilise the party at a critical stage in its development.

Dismissing the allegation, Morka said the crisis within the ADC had no connection with the APC or the Presidency, describing the situation as a consequence of poor leadership and internal disorganisation.

“What we are witnessing, the meltdown of the ADC, is nothing short of their own coordinated incompetence and failure to manage their affairs in line with democratic expectations,” he said.

He added that opposition parties often resort to blaming external forces instead of addressing their internal challenges.

“There is nothing about the crisis within the ADC that has anything to do with the APC or the President. This is about failure of leadership within the ADC, and no amount of narrative twisting can change that reality,” he said.

On the origin of the crisis, Morka linked it to a legal dispute involving a party member, Nafiu Bala, which he said exposed procedural lapses within the ADC leadership.

According to him, the matter began on September 2, 2025, when a suit was filed at the Federal High Court seeking recognition as the party’s National Chairman.

He explained that the case later moved to the Court of Appeal, where the ADC allegedly failed to comply with necessary legal procedures, resulting in the dismissal of its appeal.

“The ADC went to court without obtaining the required leave in an interlocutory appeal, and the Court of Appeal dismissed the case and returned it to the lower court with orders to maintain status quo,” Morka said.

He also defended the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission, noting that the electoral body acted strictly in line with the court’s directive.

“INEC acted based on the judgment, not on any instruction from the APC. Suggesting otherwise is unfounded and undermines the integrity of our institutions,” he added.

Morka further described the allegation of political interference as a deliberate attempt to gain public sympathy and divert attention from internal shortcomings.

He said, “This is a self-inflicted injury. You cannot disregard due process and legal requirements, and when consequences arise, begin to blame others.”

The APC spokesman also dismissed claims that individuals within the ADC were being induced to weaken the party, maintaining that there was no evidence linking the ruling party to such actions.

“When you make an allegation, you must prove it. There is no obligation on anyone to respond to baseless claims without evidence,” he said.

Morka warned that persistent attempts to drag institutions like INEC into partisan controversies could erode public trust in Nigeria’s democracy.

He urged political parties to embrace internal reforms and adhere to due process in managing their affairs, stressing that accountability remains key to strengthening democratic practice.
