The Imole Campaign Council has condemned the outburst by the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Remi Omowaiye, describing his conduct during a live television interview as an “attack on a journalist” and a reflection of deeper issues within the opposition camp.

In a statement issued on Monday, the spokesperson for the council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, criticised Omowaiye for verbally confronting a television host, Tope Ajijola, during a programme where questions were raised on governance and policy direction.

Olajengbesi said, “Osun people deserve leaders who are emotionally and mentally disciplined, and who demonstrate restraint, clarity, and respect under pressure.”

He described the APC spokesman’s reaction, including a remark questioning the journalist’s educational background, as “crude and uncivilised,” adding that it amounted to “a direct assault on decency, free speech, and the basic standards of public engagement.”

According to him, the questions posed to Omowaiye bordered on key governance areas such as education, healthcare, and local government administration, stressing that such issues required clear and informed responses rather than hostility.

“What we witnessed was not engagement but aggression. It was the conduct of a man overwhelmed by facts and defeated by reason,” Olajengbesi stated.

The council also raised concerns over alleged remarks by the Director General of the APC Campaign Council in the state, Wole Oke, accusing him of making statements perceived as threats to political opponents.

“The language reportedly used is irresponsible and deeply undemocratic,” the statement added.

Olajengbesi further argued that the APC campaign structure in Osun had yet to present a clear policy direction to the electorate weeks after its inauguration, noting that the absence of a defined agenda was becoming increasingly evident.

“Nearly 20 days after its inauguration, there is no meaningful agenda, no policy roadmap, and no clear vision presented to the people. What we see instead are insults, threats, and public drama,” he said.

He maintained that the conduct of key figures within the APC campaign had raised questions about their readiness for leadership, urging them to adopt a more issue-based and civil approach in their engagements.

“Osun deserves leadership that is calm, focused, respectful, and solution-driven,” Olajengbesi added.

Efforts to reach the APC spokesperson for comments on the allegations were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
