Members of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun Central Senatorial District on Thursday endorsed the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, where party members also endorsed Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu as the APC senatorial candidate for Ogun Central in 2027.
Speaking at the event, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, said it was the turn of Ogun Central to align with earlier endorsements by party members in Ogun East and Ogun West Senatorial districts.
Abiodun explained that Adeola’s endorsement was based on his experience and contributions to the growth of the party, noting that the lawmaker had served at different levels of government, including the House of Assembly, House of Representatives and the Senate.
The governor said the adoption of consensus candidacy was aimed at producing credible and widely accepted candidates capable of sustaining the developmental strides of the party in the state.
According to him, the process that produced Adeola has become a model for other states across the country.
“Ogun State remains a model among states in the country in terms of party organisation. I want to urge you to sustain the existing momentum during the electioneering period. I can assure you that, with the help of God, we will emerge victorious,” Abiodun said.
He urged party members to embrace peace and unity ahead of the party’s primary elections, adding that continuity in governance could only be achieved through collective commitment within the APC.
The governor also announced that the party’s direct primary elections would commence on Friday, warning members against acts capable of undermining the credibility of the process.
While accepting the endorsement, Adeola pledged not to take the confidence reposed in him for granted, assuring party members that he would sustain the peace and unity within the APC.
“I will not take this endorsement for granted. I will ensure that the peace and unity existing in the state and the party are sustained,” he said.
He also promised to consolidate on the achievements of the present administration and move the state to greater heights if elected governor.
Earlier in his remarks, the APC State Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, said the meeting was convened to strengthen party unity and prepare members ahead of the 2027 elections.
Sanusi also called on party faithful to conduct themselves peacefully during the forthcoming House of Representatives primary election.
