Former member of the House of Representatives representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Jimoh Ojugbele, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Ogun West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The result of the primary election held across the district was announced on Saturday in Abeokuta by the Returning Officer for Ogun West, Dr. Dapo Odukoya, who disclosed that Ojugbele polled 85,552 votes from the 86,811 accredited voters to defeat three other aspirants and secure the party’s ticket.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner, Ojugbele commended the peaceful conduct of the exercise, describing the primary election as free, fair and devoid of violence across the senatorial district.
He said, “First of all, we have to thank God for today’s election. It was free and fair in my ward, and from information I gathered from other local governments and from other wards, the election was free and fair, no crisis, nothing else, and everything went on smoothly for people.”
The former lawmaker stated that the successful conduct of the primary reflected the unity and commitment of APC members in Ogun West, adding that the process marked another milestone in the political history of the district.
According to him, the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the primary election was an indication that the 2027 general election in the district would also be peaceful and credible.
Ojugbele, who served three consecutive terms in the National Assembly, recalled his contributions to constituency development projects in Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, where he earned the nickname, “Mr. Projects.”
He, however, acknowledged the impact of the incumbent senator representing Ogun West, Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, describing him as “a grand master of projects” whose representation has changed the narrative of governance and development in the district.
“I want to assure you that, with the support of the people, I will improve upon what Senator Yayi has done in the senatorial district,” Ojugbele added.
Meanwhile, incumbent Senator Shuaib Salisu emerged as the APC candidate for Ogun Central Senatorial District after polling 85,000 votes, while Governor Dapo Abiodun was declared winner of the Ogun East Senatorial primary election.
