The Director of Media of the Ladi Adebutu Campaign Organisation, Afolabi Orekoya, has accused the All Progressives Congress-led administration in Ogun State of poor governance, alleging that the state has witnessed decline in critical sectors under the ruling party.
Orekoya made the allegation on Wednesday during an interview on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, where he criticised the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun over infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and welfare.
The PDP spokesman said the APC government, which has controlled Ogun State for about 16 years, failed to improve the living conditions of residents despite the state’s economic potential.
According to him, insecurity, unemployment, hunger and poor public infrastructure have continued to worsen across the state.
He said, “The governance of the ruling party for over 16 years has actually taken us back. We cannot even look at the education sector, the kind of quality education that is being given, look at the classrooms that these children have been subjected to learn from, look at the welfare of the teachers.
“How many people can even afford to eat two square meals? The cost of fuel, the cost of mobility, transportation, everything is difficult. The naira is not even having any value anymore. You have graduates without jobs.”
Orekoya also faulted the state government’s handling of security, claiming residents now live in fear due to increasing insecurity.
“You cannot even close your two eyes again because of insecurity,” he added.
The PDP chieftain further criticised some of the projects executed by the current administration, including roads, housing schemes and the Ogun airport project.
He alleged that several roads constructed under the APC administration lacked durability despite the huge amount of public funds reportedly committed to them.
According to him, roads constructed during previous PDP administrations remained more durable than some recent projects.
“Go and look at the road that was said to have been constructed from Area Command Junction to Siun. Go and look at how much was claimed to have been used to construct that road and compare it with the state of that road today,” he said.
Orekoya also claimed that the airport project frequently referenced by the APC administration was initiated during a previous PDP government.
“You mentioned the airport, yes, we thank God we have the airport. But that initiative was not from this government. The initiative came out of a PDP government. All the certifications, all the licenses were got during the PDP government,” he stated.
The spokesman, however, maintained that the Peoples Democratic Party remained united in Ogun State despite national leadership disagreements within the party.
He expressed confidence that the PDP and its governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, would emerge victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
