The Chairman of Oke-Ogun Community APC, Prince Ifekayode Akinbode, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State of operating in panic ahead of the 2027 governorship election, alleging that the opposition has resorted to blackmail and divisive propaganda over rising political tensions.

Akinbode, in a statement issued on Friday, said recent remarks attributed to the spokesperson of the Ladi Adebutu Campaign Organisation against Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola were “reckless, divisive and desperation-driven.”

He claimed the attacks on Senator Adeola’s identity and ancestry were a reflection of the PDP’s fear of the growing acceptance and popularity the lawmaker enjoys across Ogun State.

“The PDP is clearly operating in fear and confusion because they can already see the overwhelming acceptance, grassroots connection and political strength Senator Yayi enjoys across Ogun State, especially in Ogun West and beyond,” he said.

According to him, the latest criticism directed at the senator was an attempt to distract the electorate ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.

Akinbode also alleged that there were growing signs of discontent within the PDP, claiming that some members and stakeholders were quietly aligning with Adeola due to what he described as his leadership qualities and developmental outreach.

“Many members of the PDP are already abandoning Adebutu because they can see the quality of leadership, political maturity and developmental vision Senator Yayi represents,” he stated.

He added that the political mood in the state was shifting in favour of leaders who demonstrate capacity and deliver developmental projects, rather than what he described as propaganda and personal attacks.

The APC chieftain maintained that Senator Adeola remained a bonafide son of Ogun State, insisting that no amount of political narratives could change what he called established facts about the lawmaker’s roots and contributions.

He also accused the PDP of abandoning issue based politics, alleging that the party had resorted to ethnic sentiments due to what he described as its inability to win public trust.

“It is unfortunate that instead of presenting meaningful ideas and explaining why the PDP failed to win the confidence of the electorate in previous elections, they have chosen the path of personal attacks and divisive politics,” he said.

Akinbode further said the ruling party remained focused on consolidating the developmental agenda of Governor Dapo Abiodun and would not be distracted by opposition criticisms.

He urged the PDP to prepare for the 2027 elections rather than engage in media attacks, insisting that voters would ultimately decide based on competence and performance.

“Elections are won by the people, not through media propaganda or attempts to question the identity of political opponents,” he added.

The APC leader expressed confidence that Ogun electorate would make informed choices in 2027, based on leadership capacity and development driven representation.
