Olujonwo Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has declared support for the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola ahead of the 2027 Ogun State election.
The development comes in the wake of the resignation of former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo from the All Progressives Congress (APC), where she raised concerns over alleged unfair treatment, exclusion, and the consensus process that produced Adeola as the party’s governorship candidate.
In her resignation letter dated May 31, Iyabo said, “I agreed to support whichever candidate emerged through a consensus process, but I was not consulted before Senator Adeola was presented as the consensus candidate.”
She further stated, “Some of my supporters were denied access to the venue and intimidated,” adding that despite her reservations, she accepted the outcome in the interest of party unity.
According to her, “Nevertheless, I accepted the outcome in the interest of party unity and publicly congratulated Senator Adeola that same night.”
Iyabo also noted dissatisfaction with post-consensus engagements, saying, “The treatment I have received since then has reflected a consistent pattern of rejection and disrespect.”
She added, “When disrespect is the only dish served, then one should leave the table. I am therefore leaving the APC table where I am not welcomed.”
Amid these developments, Olujonwo Obasanjo’s support for Adeola has surfaced, with campaign materials promoting the senator’s governorship ambition reportedly sighted opposite the Guaranty Trust Bank branch in Kuto along the Oke-Ilewo axis of Abeokuta.
