The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has announced Mrs Kudirat Abiodun Balogun as the deputy governorship candidate of the party for the 2027 governorship election.
Balogun will run alongside the APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in the forthcoming election.
Her emergence followed the disclosure by Governor Dapo Abiodun at the APC Stakeholders’ Strategic Meeting held in Abeokuta on Friday that the deputy governorship position had been zoned to Ogun East Senatorial District.
Speaking at the meeting, Abiodun said Balogun emerged as the preferred choice of the party’s governorship candidate from among several aspirants from Ogun East, the district designated to produce the deputy governor.
Presenting the deputy governorship candidate for endorsement by party leaders, Adeola described Balogun as a worthy choice, expressing confidence in her ability to strengthen the party’s ticket and contribute meaningfully to its vision for the state.
According to him, her wealth of experience in corporate leadership and management would be valuable in advancing the developmental aspirations of the APC administration if elected.
Officially announcing the nomination, the Ogun State APC Chairman, Alhaji Yemi Sanusi, said the decision was reached after extensive consultations in line with the party’s zoning arrangement.
Sanusi noted that Balogun’s educational qualifications, corporate experience and track record in entrepreneurship development distinguished her among other contenders for the position.
He said, “Mrs Kudirat Balogun possesses the experience, competence and leadership qualities required for the office. Her achievements in the corporate sector and commitment to development make her an excellent choice for our party.”
Balogun is a corporate executive and strategic finance professional with more than three decades of experience spanning manufacturing, enterprise governance, strategic finance, operational transformation and business expansion.
She currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Finance and Information Technology, at Rite Foods Limited, where she has played a key role in the company’s growth and expansion over the years.
The APC deputy governorship candidate holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Lagos and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Bayes Business School, London.
She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. She has also attended executive leadership programmes at Harvard Business School and The Wharton School.
Beyond her corporate achievements, Balogun is recognised for her advocacy in economic empowerment, women’s advancement, youth development and industrial growth.
Party leaders said her leadership philosophy is rooted in integrity, accountability, excellence and service, expressing optimism that her emergence would further strengthen the APC’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.
Balogun, who is married with children, has pledged to deploy her experience and leadership capacity towards promoting sustainable development, economic growth and shared prosperity in Ogun State.
