The Egba Lo’kan Agenda 2027 has disowned what it described as a “charade of a misplaced endorsement” allegedly carried out by an expelled factional group, insisting that the group no longer represents its position or interests.
In a statement made available to our correspondent, the group said the release was signed by its Convener and Coordinator, Professor Yemi Oke, alongside the National Secretary, Layemi Osanyintola, and National Publicity Secretary, Olumide Oluwasogo.
The group recalled its earlier position communicated on January 2, 2025, where it announced the expulsion of certain factional elements from its fold. It alleged that the expelled members had continued to parade themselves as representatives of the movement while engaging in political activities inconsistent with its ideals.
“Our attention has been drawn to social media reports that the expelled factional group, which has been holding itself out as ‘Egba Agenda’, has purportedly endorsed or teamed up with a governorship aspirant with neither paternal nor maternal lineage to Egbaland,” the statement read.
It added, “We totally dissociate ourselves from the charade of a misplaced endorsement. Egba Agenda will only identify with a governorship candidate that has maternal or paternal roots traceable to Egbaland.”
The group further maintained that its political alignment remains guided by principles of fairness and regional interest, stressing that it would not support what it described as “an aspirant from the same Iperu like the outgoing governor.”
Reaffirming its earlier position, the group referenced a statement issued on March 13, 2026, where it congratulated Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, following his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election in Ogun State.
It also noted that on June 13, 2026, Senator Adeola was received by Egba traditional leadership under the “Ologun-Olorogun Egba” led by the Balogun of Egbaland, High Chief Sikirulai Atobatele, alongside other prominent chiefs including the Seriki of Egbaland, High Chief Tosin Fadare, FCA, among others.
According to the group, “Egba people are decent, fair-minded, socially conscious, highly civilized and globally exposed. We are not cheap. We know and stand by what is fair, right and just.”
The statement further emphasized that the group, described as a “rainbow coalition,” was formed to unite politically conscious stakeholders in Ogun Central toward what it termed the “Ogun 2027 project.”
It added that the movement was established on March 19, 2023, the same day the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Governor Dapo Abiodun winner of his second term election.
While acknowledging that Senator Adeola is expected to contest from Ogun West, the group said it had resolved to support him due to what it described as maternal ties to Egbaland, pledging to mobilize strong backing from Ogun Central.
“Egba Me’to, eto L’Egba fin n se gbogbo nkan,” the statement concluded.
The group also disclosed plans to continue stakeholder engagement toward a proposed Mutual Memorandum for Sustainable Governance in Ogun State, aimed at strengthening political stability and preventing a repeat of what it called “past governance disappointments.”
“IYALMOMO,” it added for emphasis.
