The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has commended traditional rulers in Yewaland for allegedly rejecting a cash offer said to have been made by the governorship candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, during a consultative meeting with the Yewa Traditional Council in Ilaro.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the senator’s Media Adviser, High Chief Kayode Odunaro, who said the alleged action of the monarchs reflected their commitment to the aspiration of Ogun West Senatorial District to produce the state’s next governor in 2027.

According to the statement, Adeola described the reported rejection of the alleged financial inducement as a demonstration of integrity and a reaffirmation of Yewaland’s resolve to support what he called the quest for equity, fairness and balanced political representation in Ogun State.

The lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District praised the traditional rulers for what he described as their steadfastness and commitment to the collective interest of the district.

“I want to salute the resoluteness, the steadfastness and uprightness of our revered royal fathers that was demonstrated in the encounter with Hon. Adebutu. I am happy royal fathers in Ogun West are on the same page going forward to 2027 in their stand and commitment to me as their preferred candidate for Yewaland and by extension, Ogun West Senatorial District,” he was quoted as saying.

Adeola further stated that the monarchs’ reported decision had strengthened public confidence in the traditional institution and underscored the determination of the people of Ogun West to realise their long-standing governorship ambition.

“For five decades since the creation of Ogun State, Ogun West has not produced a democratically elected governor. The aspiration of our people is founded on the principles of justice, fairness and inclusion. The reported position of the Yewa monarchs reflects that collective aspiration and demonstrates that the collective interest of our people cannot be compromised on the altar of financial inducement,” he said.

The APC governorship candidate argued that supporting another governorship aspirant from Ogun East after the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun would be inconsistent with the principles of equity and balanced power sharing.

“It would be inconsistent with the quest for equity and balanced power sharing for Yewaland to support another governorship candidate from Remo when the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, is also from Ogun East Senatorial District. The 2027 election is a great opportunity to correct a historic imbalance and ensure that every part of Ogun State has a sense of belonging in the leadership of our dear state going forward,” he added.

Adeola called on voters across the state to support his governorship ambition in 2027, promising to provide purposeful, inclusive and people-centred leadership while insisting that backing Ogun West’s aspiration remained a moral commitment to fairness, inclusiveness and equitable rotation of power.
