The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has pledged that his administration will work closely with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter, to reposition the state’s sports sector if elected governor.
Adeola made the promise in a congratulatory message issued on Sunday by his media office while felicitating Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji on his re-election as Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter.
The senator said sports remained a strategic sector with enormous potential to drive youth empowerment, economic development and social cohesion, stressing that his administration would prioritise investments capable of unlocking the industry’s opportunities.
“By the grace of God, when we assume executive responsibility in Ogun State in 2027, my administration will work closely with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, and other critical stakeholders to galvanise the sports sector, unlock its immense economic potential, develop world-class sporting infrastructure, and create opportunities for our talented youths to excel,” he said.
Adeola noted that sports journalists had continued to play a vital role in promoting sporting activities and encouraging youth participation, adding that his government would recognise the contributions of the media to the growth of the sector.
While congratulating Ogunsiji on securing a second term, the lawmaker described his re-election as a reflection of the confidence members of the association had in his leadership.
“Your re-election is a clear testament to the confidence and trust that members of the association have in your leadership, commitment and capacity to advance the ideals of sports journalism in Ogun State,” he stated.
He added that the chairman’s first tenure was marked by professionalism and meaningful achievements, saying the renewed mandate was well deserved.
“The decision of SWAN members to entrust you with a second term is not merely an endorsement of your person. It is a resounding vote of confidence in the modest but impactful successes you recorded during your first tenure,” Adeola said.
The senator also commended members of the association for conducting a peaceful election and urged the newly inaugurated executive committee to build on existing achievements by promoting initiatives that would strengthen sports development across Ogun State.
He wished Ogunsiji and his executive a successful tenure and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting programmes that would empower young talents and position sports as a major contributor to the state’s economy.
