Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed criticism of his penchant for dancing, insisting that his dancing has no bearing on his performance as governor.
Adeleke stated this on Tuesday during a town hall meeting organised by Arise TV for candidates contesting the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The governor, who is seeking re-election, described himself as a “prudent worker” and said dancing was simply part of his personality and a hobby he enjoyed.
“I dance because in my family, we are jolly good fellows. As I am dancing, I am working. There is time for everything, there is time to dance, and there is time to work. Dancing does not stop me from working. I have delivered across all sectors,” Adeleke said.
His comment came amid criticism from Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who recently mocked him at an All Progressives Congress campaign rally in Osun State and urged voters to reject what he described as the “dancing governor.”
Reacting to his critics, Adeleke said those offended by his dancing should learn how to dance, stressing that his hobby had not affected his responsibilities in office.
“If they can’t dance, I can teach them how to dance,” he said.
The governor added that his supporters and people appreciated his personality, insisting that dancing remained only a hobby.
“Dancing is a hobby. That does not affect my work. My people love me,” Adeleke added.
Defending his administration’s record, Adeleke said his government had constructed and rehabilitated roads across Osun State, while solar-powered streetlights had also been installed along some of the roads.
“As I’m speaking to you, I did not only build roads across Osun, I installed them with solar lights. This we did to provide security and enhance economic development,” he said.
He further claimed that his administration had upgraded and rehabilitated more than 200 primary healthcare facilities across the state, equipping them with electricity and clean water.
“As of today, we have upgraded and rehabilitated over 200 primary healthcare facilities to global standards, equipped with electricity and clean water,” Adeleke said.
He added that qualified engineers had certified the projects executed by his administration as meeting international standards.
Adeleke, who won the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, is now seeking another term on the platform of the Accord Party.
He is facing the All Progressives Congress candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, and other candidates in Saturday’s election.
