Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has challenged the 34 governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to come to the state and support their party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, declaring that he remains a “bulldozer” in the contest.
Adeleke, who spoke at a town hall meeting held ahead of the election, said the presence and support of the APC governors would not determine the outcome of the poll, stressing that only registered voters in Osun would decide who emerges victorious.
The governor said, “I am not worried that I am contesting against a party that has 34 governors. I am a bulldozer. If they like, they should bring all their governors; they are all my friends. They are not the ones to come and vote here. They can only support their party.”
Adeleke is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party amid the crisis that rocked the party.
Explaining his decision to leave the PDP, the governor said he still had affection for the party but was forced to seek an alternative platform because of the crisis within the opposition party.
He said, “I left the PDP to join Accord because of the crisis in the PDP then. I love PDP so much, and it was difficult to leave. I would have run as an independent candidate in this election if it were allowed in Nigeria.”
The governor also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu over his intervention following the freezing of the Osun State Government account by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The EFCC had frozen the state government’s account over alleged suspicious withdrawals, a development that generated controversy and political reactions.
Speaking on the matter, Adeleke said, “I appreciate Mr. President’s call during the recent EFCC freeze order on the state government’s account. I was promised a free and fair election by President Tinubu.”
