The Accord Party candidate and incumbent Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ila Local Government Area, the home base of former Osun State governor and founding chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande.

Results declared by the collation officer for Ila Local Government Area showed that Adeleke’s Accord Party secured 16,211 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 12,934 votes.

The result gives Adeleke a margin of 3,277 votes over his APC rival in the local government.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished a distant third, recording 259 votes in the local government.

The development is significant as Ila Local Government is closely associated with Akande, a former governor of Osun State and one of the founding figures of the APC.

Earlier results from Akande’s polling unit, Unit 12, Ward 4, in the Atogbade area of Ila-Orangun, had indicated a different outcome, with the APC securing 181 votes against Accord’s 121 votes.

However, the overall result from the local government swung in favour of Adeleke, giving the Accord candidate a decisive victory over the APC.

The result forms part of the ongoing collation of results from the Osun State governorship election, with attention focused on the final outcome of the closely contested poll.
