Osun State Governor and candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, has urged his All Progressives Congress counterpart, Bola Oyebamiji, to accept the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election and congratulate him on his victory.
Adeleke spoke shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him winner of the election, saying the result represented the clear choice of the people of Osun State.
The governor expressed gratitude to God and the electorate, describing his re-election as a victory for democracy and a reward for his administration’s performance in the state.
“I thank God Almighty for this victory. It’s a victory for democracy. Victory for Osun election,” Adeleke said.
He said the people of the state had rewarded his administration for its efforts in infrastructure development, healthcare, security and other sectors.
“The victory is a way Osun people is repaying me for the infrastructural developments, health, security and other things I have delivered for my people,” he said.
Adeleke, who adopted a conciliatory tone after the election, said there was no victor and no vanquished, stressing the need for unity following the contest.
“It’s no victor, no vanquish. I am expecting for the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to call me and congratulate me,” the governor said.
He also attributed his victory to his faith in God, declaring, “I have a God who never fails.”
Adeleke further expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a successful election.
INEC declared Adeleke the winner after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The incumbent won in 19 of the 30 local government areas in the state, while Oyebamiji prevailed in 11, giving Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
