The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, has threatened legal action against a suspended member of the party, Hon. Abayomi Hunye, and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello, over claims that he is originally from Ekiti State.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, Adeola demanded that Hunye and Marcus-Bello provide evidence to substantiate their claims or face lawsuits over what he described as false and libelous statements made against him and his family. The controversy has recently featured in public discussions ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election.

According to the statement, both Hunye and Marcus-Bello made the allegations during interviews on Channels Television programmes, where they reportedly questioned Adeola’s claim to Ogun State origin.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, said he was surprised by the allegations, particularly the claim that he was from Ekiti State.

“I watched in utter disbelief as these characters that I hardly know utter assertive and outrageous lies about my origin without any proof,” Adeola was quoted as saying.

He added, “One falsely claimed on TV that I am from Ekiti and when asked where exactly in Ekiti went moronically blank and could not provide an answer.”

The APC candidate also accused Marcus-Bello of making claims concerning the burial locations of his parents in an attempt to support the allegation about his ancestry.

“The other one was lying about the locations of the graves of my parents as if she was part of the undertakers at the burial all in a futile effort to justify an unsustainable falsehood,” he stated.

Adeola consequently gave both individuals 24 hours to produce evidence backing their claims.

“Enough is enough. They should produce their evidence in 24 hours or be ready for my lawsuits,” he warned.

The senator’s media aide further stated that the allegation concerning Adeola’s alleged Ekiti origin was not new, claiming that it had previously been used as a political strategy to frustrate his emergence as the senator representing Ogun West.

The statement said the earlier campaign failed to stop Adeola from winning the 2023 National Assembly election, arguing that the renewed allegation was coming amid his emergence as the APC’s candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
