The Ogun State Command of the Vigilante Group Nigeria, VGN, has pledged the support of its members for the governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The pledge was contained in a statement signed by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, and issued on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The development comes amid increasing political mobilisation in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Recent political activities have seen the APC intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state.
The VGN made its position known when its state command met with Adeola at the H3 Event Centre, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta. The organisation said it has more than 10,000 operatives spread across towns and villages in the state, describing itself as part of Ogun’s grassroots security structure.
Speaking at the meeting, the state commander of VGN, Mr Ishola Sola Bayo, said the organisation’s relationship with Adeola’s political aspiration dated back to 2017, before the senator returned to Ogun State.
Bayo said members of the organisation had decided to participate actively in the 2027 election by voting for Adeola, while also promising to protect their votes.
He said, “Before now we do not vote during elections as uniformed voluntary security organisation, but because of you we have all registered to vote and will remove our uniforms to vote for you and protect our votes with all our security training.”
The commander said the decision was based on what he described as Adeola’s record of service in government.
He also offered members of the organisation to participate in the security network during the election campaign, subject to the provision of necessary support.
According to him, the group plans to have at least two members at polling booths across the state to monitor the electoral process and prevent attempts to manipulate the outcome.
“In each of the polling booths, we plan to have at least two of our members as our eyes to prevent any rigging during election,” Bayo said.
He added that the group’s proposed role would include monitoring attempts to influence voters through financial inducements.
Responding to the endorsement, Adeola expressed appreciation to the VGN for its longstanding association with his political aspiration.
The senator promised to pursue legislation seeking formal national recognition for the organisation if elected governor, saying the group plays an important role in grassroots security.
“I want to assure you that I will pursue your legislation for recognition at the national level. When elected as your governor in the state, I will ensure that all agencies of government retain your services,” Adeola said.
Adeola also donated a new bus and funds to support the group’s operational activities.
The meeting was attended by the APC deputy governorship candidate, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun; former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tunji Egbetokun; former PDP state chairman, Dr Sikirulai Ogundele; Ogun West APC senatorial candidate, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele; Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Laolu Olabimtan; and Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun, among others.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election following the party’s consensus process earlier in 2026.
