The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan, popularly known as Yayi, has expressed confidence that the party will win the 2027 elections in the state without a serious contest.
Yayi spoke at an interfaith prayer and praise concert organised by the Ogun APC to seek divine intervention and commit the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections to God.
The senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District said the prayers would lead to victory for APC candidates at various levels, beginning with the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
He also expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and the prospects of APC candidates contesting National Assembly seats in Ogun State.
Yayi, who is seeking to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun, equally prayed for divine support for his emergence as the next governor of the state.
He said God had already begun clearing the way for the APC ahead of the February 6, 2027 governorship election, despite efforts by other political actors to reorganise their platforms.
Yayi said, “That same God that will give us victory on January 16 will also support me to become the seventeenth Executive Governor of Ogun State.
“God will give us victory and clear our path without a fight. Because there will be nobody contesting against us. God has started that already. In February 6, 2027, there will be nobody, because they are all partyless.”
He added that other political actors were “running helter-skelter” to address their political challenges, but maintained that the APC would emerge victorious.
“They are running helter-skelter now to perfect their own, but God has spoken that He’s going to give us victory without a fight,” he said.
Also speaking at the gathering, Governor Dapo Abiodun said the prayer session provided an opportunity for APC members to seek God’s guidance and commit their political journey towards 2027 into His hands.
Abiodun said the party had gathered to put God first through prayers, songs and thanksgiving, expressing confidence that the prayers would yield positive results.
Reflecting on his political journey, the governor recalled the challenges surrounding the 2019 governorship election, describing his emergence as a testimony of divine intervention.
He said the political situation in 2018 was difficult, but expressed confidence that the same God who guided him through that period would ensure a smooth transition to the next administration.
“We have gathered here to seek the Almighty’s face and commit our journey of 2027 into His hands,” Abiodun said.
“Today, we have come here to put God first, to pray, dance and sing. I am very confident and without a doubt that our heart desires shall be granted with the men of God who have prayed for us.
“I recalled how the journey was in 2018. When we started, it was not like this at all; it was tough. But God has used me as a testimony.
“God of 2018 is still around, and He will continue to allow us to embark on a smooth transition from a sitting governor to the incoming governor.”
Earlier, the Regional Evangelist of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Johnson Kalejaiye, prayed for divine intervention in the 2027 general elections.
Kalejaiye also said he believed God would clear the way for the Ogun APC and lead the party to victory, while urging political parties to avoid campaign of calumny and hate speech capable of provoking violence.
The event was attended by Christian and Muslim clerics who offered prayers for the APC candidates.
Among those present were former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba; Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; Chief Yemisi Sanusi; Ogun APC Chairman; and Senator Lekan Mustapha, Director-General of the Ogun State APC Campaign Council.
