The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has promised to construct a new ultra-modern market at Olomore in Abeokuta, as well as roads within the trading community, if elected governor in 2027.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, Adeola made the commitment during an endorsement ceremony organised by the 24 unions under the United Traders Forum (UTF) of Ogun State at the Ake Palace Pavilion, Abeokuta.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, directed that construction work should commence at the Olomore market site, assuring traders that workers would visit the site within the week to begin the project.

He also promised to construct roads requested by some of the trade groups under the forum, saying improved infrastructure would create a better environment for businesses to thrive.

The APC candidate made the commitments after receiving the endorsement of the traders ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Several trade groups under the UTF contributed N1 million each in support of his campaign, including the Plank Sellers Association of Ogun State, Olomore Ram, Pepper and Fish Sellers, Mobile Phones Dealers and Technicians Association in Abeokuta Computer Village, Kemta Indigenous Timber Contractors and the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA).

The Egba Ram and Goat Sellers also presented a ram to the candidate during the ceremony.

Adeola further announced a N50,000 grant for 5,000 members of the United Traders Forum, alongside another financial donation to the body.

He said the gesture was in appreciation of the traders’ support, endorsement and contributions, assuring them that their support would not be taken for granted.

Earlier, the President of the United Traders Forum, Alhaji Fasiu Ajadi, said the traders decided to support Adeola because of what he described as his developmental achievements as a senator.

Ajadi said members of the forum possessed Permanent Voter Cards and were prepared to persuade their family members to support Adeola’s governorship bid.

He said traders at Olomore were particularly interested in having a modern market similar to the market projects attributed to Adeola in Panseke and other parts of Ogun State.

The UTF leader also appealed for improved infrastructure around major trading communities, saying modern markets and accessible roads would strengthen commercial activities and improve the welfare of traders.

The endorsement ceremony was attended by the APC deputy governorship candidate, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun; former Speakers of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tunji Egbetokun and Titi Oseni Sodunke; former Speaker Suraju Adekumbi; former state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele; former APC state chairman, Hon. Derin Adebiyi; Commissioner for Forestry, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun; and Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Omoniyi Jagunmolu Akande, among others.
