Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has expressed deep sorrow over the fire incident that affected a section of the Anglican Church in Osogbo on Monday, extending his sympathies to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Folusho O. Babatunji, and the entire church community.

Describing the incident as distressing, Governor Adeleke acknowledged the devastating impact of the fire on the place of worship and emphasized the need for heightened public awareness and precautionary measures to prevent fire outbreaks across the state.

“I condole with the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Folusho O. Babatunji, over the fire incident that torched a part of the church in Osogbo,” Adeleke said. “It is painful to hear about the devastating damage of the fire, especially as it leaves a segment of the church ravaged and unusable any longer.”

The governor commended the swift response of emergency responders, particularly the fire service and other rescue teams, whose timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading further and ensured no lives were lost.

“This is heart-wrenching, and I want to convey my sympathy and that of the Osun State Government to the church and the bishop, who may have suffered personal losses as a result of the fire incident,” Adeleke added.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing fire safety awareness and urged residents to be more vigilant in preventing fire outbreaks, stressing that curbing such incidents requires a collective effort.

The state government has assured the affected church of necessary support as it recovers from the unfortunate incident.
