The Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, has officially moved into the royal palace after completing all the traditional coronation rites required of a reigning Owa of Ijesaland.

As part of the rituals, Owa Haastrup observed the traditional 90-day seclusion rites at the Ogboni compound in Ilesa, after which he proceeded to Okeiro for Iwesu, the symbolic ritual where his head was bathed in sacred waters in preparation for the donning of the Ade Are, a rare twenty-four-eye crown symbolizing divine authority and purity.

He also underwent spiritual cleansing and other significant rites before stepping into his ancestral palace.

In a key moment steeped in historical symbolism, High Chief Oginni, the Obaloro of Ibokun, and the custodian of the sword of victory inherited from his father, Olofin, handed the sacred sword to the Owa with blessings.

“This sword is a symbol of divine authority and conquest. I pray you overcome all enemies, both seen and unseen, and reign in peace and prosperity,” said Chief Oginni as he handed over the sword.

Following the sword ceremony, Owa Haastrup visited Oba Olufemi Agunsoye, the Ogboni Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, who offered royal blessings and traditional divination in accordance with the customs of Ijesaland.

Commending the new monarch, the Elegboro remarked, “Owa Haastrup’s decision to honor every aspect of our tradition is a testament to his respect for our heritage. Ijesa people have chosen well—not just for today but for the future of their children and generations to come.”

In his response, Owa Haastrup expressed gratitude to the kingmakers, fellow traditional rulers, and all sons and daughters of Ijesaland at home and abroad.

“I am deeply humbled by the trust and support given to me. I pledge to serve with sincerity and to work tirelessly for the progress and unity of Ijesaland. Together, we will make our land great again,” he said.

It would be recalled that Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup emerged as the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland on December 29, 2024, after a highly competitive selection process among ten candidates presented by the Bilaro Ruling House.
