Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, fondly called “Ijaya”, as a remarkable leader, a steadfast advocate for her people, and an unwavering voice for justice and equity.

Speaking through his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, at the Fidau Prayer held in her honor, Abiodun paid tribute to the late lawmaker, acknowledging her dedication, strength, and commitment to the progress of Ogun State and Nigeria throughout her years of public service.

He emphasized that as the Honorable Member representing Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, she was a beacon of effective representation, demonstrating diligence and courage in advancing policies that benefited not only her constituents but the nation at large.

“Her passing is a painful reminder of the fleeting nature of life, but we take solace in knowing she lived with purpose and left an indelible mark on governance, leadership, and humanity. Her contributions will continue to inspire those who follow in her footsteps,” the governor stated.

Abiodun prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings, grant her eternal rest, and provide comfort to her family, friends, and all who mourn her loss.

In her personal tribute, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele described the late lawmaker as a dear friend, confidant, and sister whom she would deeply miss.

“Ijaya was almost larger than life with her characteristic laughter, warmth, goodwill, and kindness, which she extended to everyone regardless of social status,” she recalled.

She highlighted Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga’s selflessness, her commitment to the growth of her constituents, Ogun State, and her strong advocacy for women’s empowerment across Nigeria. Reflecting on their personal memories, she urged attendees to emulate the late lawmaker’s legacy of leadership and service to humanity.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass, represented by Hon. James Faleke, also paid tribute to the late Onanuga, describing her as a committed, dogged, caring, and dedicated member who served with loyalty and passion.

Delivering a lecture titled ‘Time’, the Grand Chief Imam of Makun Kingdom and Wazeerul Muslimeen of Ogun State, Sheik (Dr.) Tajudeen Akolawole Ashaye, reminded the audience that God has allotted time to every individual on earth and that it must be used judiciously.

He stressed that “Allah created life and death, but how we utilize our time on earth determines our reward in the hereafter.” He urged the gathering to lead righteous lives, exhibit patience, impact others positively, and make the most of their time.

The event witnessed recitations from the Holy Quran and prayers for the family of the deceased, as attendees reflected on the life and legacy of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga.
