Tunbosun Awe, a political aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba representing Ondo North, has resigned from his role, citing poor remuneration as his reason for stepping down.

Awe, who served as a ward liaison officer for Isowopo Ward II in Akoko North East Local Government Area, made his resignation public through a letter released on Wednesday.

In the letter, Awe expressed displeasure over his monthly salary of N20,000, describing it as an insult to workers’ dignity and inconsistent with Nigeria’s economic reality. He also pointed out that the amount falls significantly below the national minimum wage, recently pegged at N70,000.

“This resignation is due to the N20,000 salary you pay me monthly, which no longer aligns with the harsh economic realities and is far below the minimum wage approved by the National Assembly,” Awe wrote.

He also revealed that his relationship with Senator Ipinsagba dates back to 2006, when the senator first declared his ambition to represent the district, noting that he served as secretary of the campaign structure at that time.

According to him, despite repeated appeals for an upward salary review, nothing changed. He lamented that the current monthly pay is the same amount he received back in 2007 when he worked as a personal assistant to the senator, who was then serving as special assistant to the government on industrialisation under late Governor Olusegun Agagu.

“Several times, I sought an audience with you to review this salary issue, but all efforts proved abortive. It is disheartening that the same N20,000 I earned as your PA in 2007 is still what I’m being paid in 2025,” he added.

Despite his frustration, Awe thanked the senator for the platform and opportunity to serve.

When contacted for comment, the senator’s media aide, Yinka Ajagunna, said he would respond to the development. However, as of the time of filing this report, he had yet to do so, while calls to his official lines were unsuccessful.
