The Ogun State House of Assembly has expressed its readiness to strengthen collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abeokuta branch, in a bid to drive legal reforms and ensure the decongestion of correctional centres across the state.

This formed part of discussions during a courtesy visit by the NBA Abeokuta executive, led by its Chairman, Barr. Kayode Aderemi, to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Speaker Elemide, while welcoming the delegation, emphasized the need for synergy between the legislative arm and legal professionals, especially in drafting laws that reflect current realities and serve the public interest.

He noted that the input of the NBA would be valuable in ensuring that laws passed by the Assembly are well-structured, clear, and non-repetitive.

He also disclosed that the 10th legislature was committed to digitizing all passed laws to make them easily accessible to the public, adding that legislative transparency and public participation remain priorities of the current Assembly.

In his contribution, the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, reiterated the importance of the NBA’s involvement in justice sector reform.

He noted that the House recently passed a resolution aimed at decongesting correctional facilities in the state and called on the association to support the initiative by offering legal expertise and advocacy.

Responding, NBA Abeokuta Branch Chairman, Barr. Kayode Aderemi, pledged the association’s commitment to providing legal insights that would enhance the quality of legislation and strengthen justice administration in the state.

He commended the Assembly for its openness to collaboration and its focus on reforming the justice sector.

In a related development, the Speaker also hosted Hon. Morenkeji Olukoyejo, Chairman of the 6th Assembly of the Nigerian Youth Parliament representing Ogun West, who was on a familiarisation visit. Elemide assured that the Ogun State House of Assembly would continue to support youth-driven policies and initiatives that promote empowerment and leadership inclusion.

The Speaker reaffirmed the commitment of the legislative arm to work with institutions and organisations that promote good governance, justice, and youth development in the state.
