African Democratic Congress candidate for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, Femi Dexter Akin-Alamu, on Saturday alleged that the exercise was marred by vote buying.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote at Ward 11, Polling Unit 38, University of Ibadan, Akin-Alamu said he received reports of voters being offered cash and other incentives by politicians to sway their choices at the polls.
He lamented that such acts undermine the credibility of the electoral process, warning that, “it weakens the integrity of democracy and the confidence of citizens in elections.”
The ADC candidate, however, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for the early arrival of voting materials, saying the prompt distribution ensured a smooth process.
Akin-Alamu also expressed disappointment over the low turnout of voters, noting that participation was crucial to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
