The Federal Government has announced plans to enrol over 44 million Nigerians in health insurance by the year 2030 as part of its efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare system and reduce the burden of out-of-pocket payments.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, said the government was committed to achieving universal health coverage and ensuring that no citizen is left behind.
He explained that the initiative will not only expand access to quality health services but also protect vulnerable Nigerians from financial hardship.
“Our goal is to ensure that by 2030, at least 44 million Nigerians will be covered under health insurance schemes. This is crucial for improving health outcomes and lifting the burden of healthcare costs from families,” Pate stated.
According to him, Nigeria’s health financing reform is designed to reduce the number of citizens paying directly for medical services, a trend that has worsened poverty levels across the country.
