The ancient city of Abeokuta played host to a historic moment on Thursday as the Nigerian Book of Records (NBR) inducted four distinguished individuals into its Hall of Fame, including the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Michael Gbadebo.

The ceremony, which underscored the importance of nation-building, recognized individuals who have made groundbreaking contributions to various sectors in Nigeria. Other inductees included Alhaji Adewale Sonaike, Group Deputy Managing Director of Courteville Business Solutions PLC; Dr. Adebola Akindele, the founder and CEO of Courteville Business Solutions PLC; and Dr. Muiz Banire, a former Lagos State commissioner who was represented at the event.

Speaking at the event, Professor David David, Director General of the Nigerian Books of Record Research Centre, described the initiative as a vital platform to honor exceptional Nigerians and inspire future generations.

“The Nigerian Books of Record is not just about documenting achievements; it’s about creating a legacy of excellence and encouraging young Nigerians to dream bigger,” Prof. David said. He emphasized the role of the NBR in promoting national pride and countering negative perceptions of Nigeria.

The Nigerian Books of Record, established in 2011, serves as the first comprehensive encyclopedia of Nigerian accomplishments, spanning diverse fields such as education, business, literature, and sports.

Founder and coordinator of the Sixth Sense Initiative, Chief Abiodun Lasile, expressed his delight at the turnout and the caliber of honorees. In his address, he lauded the inductees for their remarkable achievements, describing them as symbols of resilience and excellence.

“Today, we celebrate not just the successes of these individuals but the values of perseverance and leadership they embody. Their accomplishments remind us that greatness is attainable through dedication and hard work,” Lasile remarked.

He also highlighted the Sixth Sense Initiative’s commitment to fostering a reading culture among Nigerian youths, calling on the inductees to use their platform to inspire the next generation.

Oba Michael Gbadebo, who was visibly elated, pledged his continued support for the Nigerian Book of Records, describing the honor as a call to further service.

Alhaji Adewale Sonaike acknowledged the recognition as a validation of his commitment to national development. “This honor is not just for me but for everyone striving to make a difference in our country,” he said.

Similarly, Dr. Adebola Akindele expressed his gratitude, noting, “This recognition fuels my passion to contribute even more to Nigeria’s growth. Our challenges are many, but our potential is greater.”

The event concluded with a charge to the audience to strive for excellence and contribute to a better Nigeria.
