Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has returned from his annual vacation earlier than scheduled to attend the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, which holds on Friday in Ibadan.
Makinde, who had been on leave since August 29 and was initially expected to resume on September 29, submitted a notice of early resumption to the State House of Assembly on Thursday.
His request was immediately approved by lawmakers, with the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Fadeyi, presiding over the session where the letter was read and adopted.
In the letter, Makinde explained that the historic and culturally significant nature of the coronation necessitated his early return.
“I shall resume duty tomorrow, September 26, 2025, and hereby assume the full functions of the Office of Governor of Oyo State,” the governor stated.
He also appreciated his deputy, Bayo Lawal, for effectively holding the fort as acting governor during his absence, while announcing that the deputy would now return to his substantive role.
Lawmakers commended Makinde’s decision, describing it as a demonstration of respect for Ibadan’s cultural heritage and reaffirmed their support for traditional institutions in the state.
