President Bola Tinubu has commended the newly crowned 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Sen.) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, describing him as a symbol of resilience and democracy while assuring Nigerians that the nation’s economic reforms are beginning to yield positive results.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, Tinubu said the nation’s economy has turned the corner and there is now light at the end of the tunnel, following the economic measures introduced by his administration over the past two years.
Speaking at the coronation ceremony held in Ibadan, Oyo State, the President thanked Nigerians for their patience, endurance and support during the period of reforms, promising that they will soon begin to enjoy the fruits of their sacrifices.
“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel.
“The reforms have been successful because of the support and perseverance of Nigerians,” Tinubu said.
The President also lauded the new Olubadan for his contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, recalling how the monarch overcame an illegal impeachment as a former governor of Oyo State and remained steadfast in his service to the people.
“Today is an exciting day for me, Kabiyesi. Happy birthday to you. It is also a happy day for you. As President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is a great honour to witness this history unfold,” he said.
Tinubu prayed for long life, prosperity, and continued relevance for the Olubadan, describing his ascension to the throne as a rare feat in history.
Governor Seyi Makinde presented Oba Ladoja with the staff of office and a certificate, declaring that the coronation has ended the disputes surrounding the Ibadan traditional institution.
Also present at the ceremony were the governors of Ondo, Ekiti, and Osun States, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Biodun Oyebanji, and Ademola Adeleke, as well as several former governors and traditional rulers across the country.
