A Chinese power generation firm, CCETC, has expressed its readiness to establish a power generation plant and an industrial park in Ogun State, as part of efforts to boost the state’s industrial capacity and energy supply.

Chairman of the company, Mr. Guo Xianda, disclosed this over the weekend during an extensive meeting between his team and Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Xianda, who commended the government’s investment-friendly policies, pledged the company’s readiness to install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, free of charge, to accelerate economic activities in the area.

According to him, “Our company is fully prepared to install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport at no cost to the government. This is part of our commitment to support Ogun State’s industrial development and provide sustainable energy for economic growth.”

He explained that CCETC, based in Jiangsu, China, already has a substantial investment footprint in Nigeria and Africa, with over 250MW projects currently operating in Nigeria, and is now seeking to expand its operations further across Africa, with a capacity standing in excess of 5,000MW for distribution.

Xianda added that the group’s interest in Ogun State covers three major areas—power generation and distribution, investment in a dedicated state transmission network, and the establishment of an industrial park that would attract more Chinese manufacturers to the state.

He said, “We are confident that Ogun State offers a favorable environment for foreign investment. Our plan is to build an industrial park that will host several Chinese manufacturers and ensure stable electricity supply through a dedicated transmission network.”

In his response, Governor Dapo Abiodun thanked the Chinese firm for choosing Ogun as a destination for their investment, describing the proposal as a welcome development that aligns with his administration’s industrialization agenda.

Abiodun said, “We are delighted by CCETC’s commitment to partner with us. This project will strengthen power generation and distribution across the state, attract more industries, and further position Ogun as Nigeria’s industrial capital.”

He added that the state government would continue to attract credible investors through policies that promote ease of doing business, noting that the collaboration with CCETC is a direct outcome of his recent investment trip to China.

The Governor also revealed plans to take the CCETC team on an inspection tour of ongoing distribution infrastructure and power projects currently being executed by Sahara and Powergen, as part of efforts to secure reliable energy supply across the state.

Abiodun said, “Our administration remains committed to ensuring that every part of the state enjoys steady electricity supply. We believe this partnership will complement existing projects by Sahara and Powergen to boost energy availability.”
