President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following recent security challenges in Kwara and Kebbi states.
The decision comes as the nation reels from the kidnapping of 24 schoolgirls in Kebbi and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.
According to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, “I have directed the security agencies to do everything possible to rescue the abducted schoolgirls and bring them home safely.”
The statement added that the President awaits detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi on his behalf, as well as updates from the police and the Department of State Services regarding the attack in Kwara.
Responding to a request by the Kwara State governor, President Tinubu also ordered the deployment of additional military and police personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area.
Onanuga said, “The President is deeply concerned about the security breaches and is ensuring that every necessary measure is taken to protect citizens and pursue the bandits responsible.”
