Former governor of Kano State and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has warned politicians against vote buying, insisting that the political culture in Kano State does not tolerate inducement and monetary influence.

Kwankwaso, while speaking on recent political developments in the state, said although politics comes with wins and losses, betrayal often attracts public anger, especially at a time when many Nigerians are battling insecurity and economic hardship.

He noted that the Kano electorate are politically conscious and cannot easily be swayed with money, stressing that the state operates a different political system compared to other parts of the country.

According to him, “Kano politics is different. Where else in Nigeria would someone come to you with a bag of money expecting you to agree to their terms?”

The former governor rejected claims that every politician has a price tag, declaring that his conscience cannot be bought. “People often say that everyone in Nigerian politics has a price. If you want someone who cannot be bought, come to Rabiu Kwankwaso,” he said.

Kwankwaso also cautioned voters against accepting short term incentives during elections, warning that such actions only perpetuate hardship.

He said citizens often suffer for four years, only to be offered small inducements on election day, a cycle he described as damaging to good governance.

Urging political actors to uphold principles, Kwankwaso said leadership founded on inducement and betrayal cannot bring meaningful development to the people.

The remarks were made amid reports of political realignments in Kano State, including speculations that his protégé and Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, may be considering a defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.
