Ogun State authorities on Monday remanded controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, following his arraignment on multiple criminal charges, including assault, theft, and obstruction of police officers.
Portable appeared before the Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, where the prosecution accused him of attacking several individuals, including a police officer, and stealing a luxury vehicle valued at about ₦12 million. The vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz E300, belongs to Ileyemi Damilola and is linked to a car dealership, Wally Dex Auto.
Confirming the development, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said on Tuesday: “Yes, he was arraigned in court and remanded yesterday.”
The arraignment followed a viral video that surfaced on Sunday, showing the singer in handcuffs, shirtless and visibly distressed, while pleading in what appeared to be a police holding facility. The footage sparked widespread reactions on social media.
According to court documents, Portable allegedly assaulted actress and skit maker Omobolarinde Akinyanju, popularly known as Ashabi Simple, one of his baby mamas, during an altercation at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on New Year’s Day. The prosecution also alleged that he and others attacked police officers who responded to a distress call at the venue.
Other alleged victims listed in the charge sheet include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah. The police further accused the singer of obstructing and physically assaulting a female officer, Ogungbe Olayemi, during the incident.
During proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as prosecution witnesses, though the actress herself was absent. The presiding judge declined to grant bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer, whose testimony was deemed crucial in determining the bail application. The court adjourned the hearing to January 19, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a separate viral video reportedly showing Portable being assaulted while in custody. Authorities assured the public that any officer found culpable would face appropriate sanctions.
