A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, has said President Bola Tinubu is working hard to rescue Nigeria from collapse by taking tough but necessary decisions.
Ajiboye, who is also the Executive Secretary and Managing Director of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation, made the remark on the Politics Today programme on Channels TV on Monday in Abuja.
He said the nation’s current challenges are the outcome of wrong decisions taken by previous administrations, which he described as selfish and unpopular.
Ajiboye argued that Tinubu has been taking critical steps to address the country’s problems, especially in the areas of security and agriculture, and has also improved other sectors that past governments neglected.
He stated that the Tinubu administration has reduced unemployment from over 35 per cent to around 15 per cent, adding that workers’ salaries are now being paid on time.
According to him, state governments no longer need to borrow to pay salaries because they now earn more from monthly allocations.
“A country that has been using 97 per cent of its revenue to service debt will come to a problem at some point. The consequence has come, and here is a man who is tackling the problem fundamentally,” Ajiboye said.
He added that the government has been transparent and honest with Nigerians, and noted that it is unrealistic to expect a complete turnaround within two years.
Ajiboye also said subsidy payments had drained the nation’s revenue, adding that the earnings of 2025 were the only substantial revenue Nigeria had received in the last decade.
He insisted that Tinubu’s second term is assured, describing critics such as David Mark, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai as disgruntled politicians with no solutions to offer.
Ajiboye said the Tinubu administration has taken the bull by the horns and is doing everything possible to secure the future of Nigeria.
