The trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in the crash that claimed the lives of Anthony Joshua’s close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, has been adjourned to February 25, 2026.

The case, which was being heard at the Sagamu Magistrate Court, was postponed after the prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, told the court that the prosecution had four witnesses, but only three were present in court.

Nigiwe further told the magistrate that the case file needed to be duplicated and submitted to the Attorney General of Ogun State through the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The defence counsel, Olalekan Abiodun, objected to the request, arguing that the prosecution had enough time to complete the necessary legal procedures before the court date.

However, the magistrate ruled that the matter should be adjourned in the interest of justice. The court ordered the prosecuting counsel to duplicate the file and forward it to the Attorney General’s office.

After the proceedings, the defence counsel said he agreed with the court’s decision, while the prosecuting counsel declined to comment.

The case dates back to December 29, 2025, when a Lexus SUV driven by Kayode collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The crash killed Ayodele and Ghami, while boxing champion Anthony Joshua and Kayode sustained minor injuries.

Kayode was charged with four offences, including dangerous and negligent driving and driving without a valid licence. He was remanded in custody on January 2, 2026, and later granted bail of N5 million with two sureties.

The Ogun State Police Command said the driver remained remanded until his bail conditions were fulfilled. The case was earlier adjourned to January 20 for trial.

On January 4, a funeral prayer service for Ayodele and Ghami was held at the London Central Mosque. Before their remains were repatriated, Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay their respects.

The next hearing in the case is now scheduled for February 25, 2026.
