Abba Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has declared that no political party can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The declaration came on Monday in Yola, shortly after he collected his All Progressives Congress (APC) membership registration card at Gwadabawa Ward in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Abba said his decision to join the APC was influenced by what he described as the best economic and human reforms under the current administration.

He praised Tinubu’s leadership, stating that the president is not biased in appointments and makes decisions based on merit rather than religion or region.

“I want to make it very clear that nobody or any political party can stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to Aso Rock come 2027. Nigerians have seen his good work; he is not a tribalist, he does not make appointments based on religion or region, but his decisions are purely on merit,” he said.

Abba also highlighted the massive human and infrastructural development taking place across the country under Tinubu’s leadership.

He urged Nigerians to support the president, saying the administration needs continued backing to sustain its progress.

“The president needs your support to continue with the good work. We should mobilise more people and beyond party affiliations to support our president,” he added.

APC leaders in Adamawa State expressed confidence that Abba’s defection would strengthen the party’s chances in the next election.

The APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Adamawa Central, Alhaji Isa Bagalti, said the move put to rest speculations that the party could lose in 2027.

“It is now clear to people that there is no party in Nigeria or presidential candidate that can face our president at the poll come 2027,” he said.

A top APC chieftain in Adamawa State, Alhaji Jamil Yusuf, echoed this view, describing other presidential aspirants as wishful thinkers who lack the credentials to challenge Tinubu.

“Majority of those saying that they are going to contest for the office of president see politics as a trade fair venue, where people sell and buy. I advise such people to invest their money in profitable ventures, because the office of the president is no longer for the highest bidder, but for competent people like President Tinubu,” Yusuf said.

In reaction, Atiku Abubakar described his son’s defection as a personal political choice, saying it is normal in a democracy for family members to make different political decisions.

He stated that he does not interfere in his children’s convictions and would not impose his will on Nigerians.

However, Atiku criticised the APC’s governance record, blaming the party for worsening economic and social conditions across the country.
