Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has extended his warm wishes to the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, as he marks his 65th birthday.

In a statement released in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Governor Abiodun described Adesina as a visionary economist whose leadership has played a crucial role in Africa’s development.

“Under his stewardship, the African Development Bank has transformed into a beacon of hope and progress for our continent,” Abiodun stated.

Reflecting on Adesina’s journey since assuming office as AfDB President in 2015, the governor highlighted the institution’s remarkable impact under his leadership.

He noted that Adesina’s efforts have not only strengthened the bank’s global reputation but have also reinforced its commitment to Africa’s economic growth.

Born on February 6, 1960, Dr. Adesina has built an illustrious career in economics and development, earning him widespread recognition. His re-election in 2020, after first assuming the AfDB presidency in 2015, is a testament to the confidence African nations have in his vision.

“Dr. Adesina embodies the essence of leadership, inspiring others to strive for excellence and fostering a unifying spirit among African countries,” Governor Abiodun remarked.

Describing him as a distinguished ambassador for Nigeria, Abiodun praised Adesina’s unwavering commitment to Africa’s economic advancement. “His immense contributions toward the economic emancipation of our continent have not only elevated Nigeria’s standing on the global stage but have also served as an inspiration for many,” he said.

Quoting Adesina, the governor reiterated his guiding philosophy: “We must invest in our people, create jobs, and ensure that no one is left behind in our quest for sustainable development.”

Governor Abiodun affirmed his belief in Adesina’s leadership, stating, “As the African Development Bank continues to champion initiatives aimed at eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable development, I hold firmly that the future of our continent is brighter.”

Expressing confidence in Adesina’s continued impact, he added, “I am certain that under Dr. Adesina’s guidance, the AfDB will continue to drive impactful changes that will benefit not only Nigeria but the entire African continent.”
