The Ogun State Government has announced the commencement of tolling operations on the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway starting Monday, March 24, 2025, marking the end of four years of free usage since the road’s reconstruction.

According to the government, the tolling initiative is aimed at ensuring sustainable maintenance, efficient operations, and enhanced road safety for commuters.

The 14.7km expressway, which had been in a state of disrepair for years, was rebuilt by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. Despite the PPP framework, toll collection was delayed to ease the financial burden on road users.

Speaking on the development, the Director-General of the Office of Public-Private Partnerships, Hon. Dapo Oduwole, emphasized that the delay in tolling was a demonstration of Governor Abiodun’s commitment to the welfare of the people.

“The government magnanimously postponed tolling on the expressway since 2021 to provide some relief to residents and road users,” Oduwole stated. “However, while prioritizing public interest, we must also consider the economic interests of investors to maintain the road’s quality and ensure continued service delivery.”

He described the expressway as a vital economic corridor linking Ogun State to Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, and reiterated that the government had provided all necessary amenities to make it one of the best roads in the country.

The government also announced exemptions for certain vehicles, including emergency response units such as ambulances, fire service trucks, and patrol vehicles. Additionally, Ogun State Government official vehicles and select security vehicles will not be subject to toll payments.

“As tolling begins, we urge all road users to comply fully with the regulations, as enforcement measures will be strictly implemented without exception,” Oduwole warned.

The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to balancing public convenience with economic sustainability while ensuring that road infrastructure remains in top condition for years to come.
