The Lagos State Government on Tuesday sealed Ashley Mall and Better Mart, both located in Ajah, over alleged contravention of the State’s Transportation, Urban and Regional Planning Development Laws.

The enforcement exercise, which took place at Better Mart on Badore Road, Off Addo Road, and Ashley Mall in Ajah, was jointly carried out by the Governor’s Monitoring Team (GMT), the State Taskforce, and officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), and the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA).

General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adelabu, said the operation was part of a coordinated, multi-agency effort to ensure compliance with regulations on parking, building control, and environmental management.

“In a bid to ensure a coordinated, multi-agency approach to urban mobility, the State Government set up a Transport Advisory Board comprising relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies. This joint enforcement was carried out on the order of the Governor of Lagos State,” she stated.

She added that MDAs from the Ministry of Transportation, Physical Planning, and Environment participated in the enforcement, stressing the government’s resolve to uphold its laws without compromise.

Before sealing the premises, task force officers ensured that all occupants and customers vacated the buildings, while LASBCA demolished some illegal attachments.

Last week, LASPA officials on a routine compliance check at one of the malls were reportedly assaulted, a development the agency described as unacceptable.

Mrs. Adelabu warned that any person or organisation attempting to obstruct lawful government activities would face the full wrath of the law, reaffirming LASPA’s commitment to implementing the State Parking Regulations.
