The Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned Salini Nigeria Limited and other stakeholders linked to the Lagos State Waterworks project in Akute, Ifo II State Constituency, over alleged environmental degradation affecting several communities.

The House Committee on Justice, Ethics, and Public Petitions, chaired by Hon. Oluseun Adesanya, issued the invitations following a meeting between residents of affected areas and officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Environment at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The committee noted that the initial session excluded the contractor and other relevant parties, insisting they must appear to give full clarification on the matter.

The petition, submitted by the Baale Akinosi Area Community Development Council, accused the Lagos State Government’s water pipeline project of causing environmental damage to communities along Akute, Baale, Alausa, and Oke-Aro.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Assembly has re-invited the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, and his Environment counterpart, Mr. Ola Oresanya, alongside other heads of allied agencies, for failing to appear for a briefing on the state of road projects across Ogun.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide warned that if they fail to honour the rescheduled meeting set for Tuesday, 19 August 2025, the lawmakers will invoke constitutional powers to compel their appearance. “We need to be fully informed of government efforts and the state of ongoing road projects across the state,” he said.

During the legislative parley, lawmakers reviewed road project progress in their constituencies and urged the state government to speed up rehabilitation and reconstruction works to improve accessibility and infrastructure.
