Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent chieftain of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and outspoken political commentator, has died, party sources confirmed Tuesday.
The lawyer and member of APC’s 2023 Presidential Campaign Council passed away Monday, June 9, though circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately disclosed.
“Barr. Onokpasa was a brilliant legal mind and passionate party man whose contributions to our democracy were invaluable.”
“His passing leaves a void in our political discourse,” APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said.
Known for his fiery television appearances, Onokpasa became one of President Bola Tinubu’s most vocal defenders, frequently appearing on news programs to analyze administration policies. He served on both the APC’s Publicity Committee and 2023 Presidential Campaign Council.
The Renewed Hope United Kingdom, an APC support group, described him as “a fearless truth-teller who loved Nigeria deeply” in a social media tribute.
Onokpasa is survived by his wife and children. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family, the APC said in a statement.
