The Ogun State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has cautioned political parties and their supporters to avoid violence ahead of Saturday’s Remo Federal Constituency by-election, stressing that the exercise is not a battle but a democratic process.

Speaking at a press conference in Abeokuta on Thursday, IPAC State Chairman, Comrade Sanyaolu Abayomi, referenced Governor Dapo Abiodun’s warning that his administration would deal decisively with anyone attempting to disrupt the poll.

“This by-election is not a battle, it is a democratic process to elect a replacement for the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga.”

“Anyone who causes trouble on Saturday will be dealt with in line with the law. We will not allow threats that can set Ogun State on fire or make it ungovernable,” Abayomi said.

The IPAC chairman stressed that the poll should be devoid of thuggery and unrest, urging political actors to focus on fair competition.

“We hereby advise all political parties to eschew violence. The by-election should be used as an opportunity to sustain the quality representation provided by the late Hon. Onanuga,” he added.

Abayomi also reaffirmed IPAC’s commitment to peace, warning that the council would not condone any act of lawlessness. “We are for law and order,” he declared.

The by-election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
