The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate for the forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, Adewale Murphy Olatunji, are facing public backlash after allegedly distributing sachet alcohol to residents as part of their campaign materials.

The incident, which has stirred anger among residents and civic groups, is being described as both morally questionable and socially irresponsible.

Critics say the gesture undermines the dignity and cultural values of the constituency, while also raising concerns about public health and alcohol abuse.

“Of all the possible items to distribute during a campaign, sachet alcohol should not be one,” a concerned resident said. “It doesn’t represent the dignity of Ibadan North people, and it’s disappointing that our leaders think this is acceptable.”

Political observers warn that the controversy could damage the APC’s chances in the August 16 bye-election, as many voters view the gesture as a sign of poor judgment and disregard for community standards.
