The Lagos State Police Command has recovered a Toyota Sienna vehicle allegedly loaded with bags of cannabis after the driver abandoned it during a stop-and-search operation in Ojo.

The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement shared on the command’s official X account on Friday.

According to Hundeyin, the incident occurred on August 15, 2025, when officers of the Ojo Division, who were on routine patrol, flagged down an ash-coloured Toyota Sienna for inspection.

“In the process of demanding the driver’s identification and vehicle documents, the driver suddenly jumped out and fled with the vehicle key, abandoning the car,” the statement read.

Police operatives, after conducting a search of the vehicle, discovered two bags of substances suspected to be cannabis, one Army jungle hat, and two ATM cards.

The vehicle and recovered items have since been transferred to Special Squad 2 of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja for further investigation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, praised the Ojo Division operatives for their swift action and assured residents of the command’s commitment to hunting down the fleeing suspect.

“He reiterates the command’s resolve to intensify patrols and intelligence-led policing across Lagos, urging residents to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities to the Police,” Hundeyin added.

The command noted that investigation into the case is ongoing, promising that the fleeing suspect will be apprehended and brought to justice.
