Former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, has been nominated as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland by the Olubadan-In-Council.

The nomination was formally made on Monday during a meeting held at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, located within the Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state.

Though the new Olubadan was not present at the meeting, the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, who presided over the gathering, confirmed that all members of the council had unanimously agreed to nominate Oba Ladoja.

“We, members of the Olubadan-In-Council, have all signed and nominated Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland,” Oba Ajibola told journalists after the meeting.

He further stated that the resolution would be forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde, who is expected to announce a date for the official presentation of the staff of office to the incoming monarch.

“The late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will be buried this week. So, this week is not feasible for the coronation. He (Makinde) may decide to pick one week, two weeks, or even three weeks,” Ajibola added.

The 79-year-old politician and businessman previously served as Oyo State Governor from 2003 to 2007 and has remained a prominent figure in the state’s socio-political affairs.

The late Olubadan, Oba Olakulehin, passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 89, after a brief illness. His burial is scheduled for later this week, after which the process of formally installing his successor will commence.

Governor Makinde is expected to act on the council’s submission in the coming days.
