Tragedy struck in Otan-Ile, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, as the lifeless body of one Tope Olajide, popularly known as MECO, was discovered hanging inside his room on Thursday.

Sources said the deceased, an auto mechanic, was found in the morning after reportedly having a misunderstanding with his wife the previous night. His body, still hanging when neighbours arrived, created panic in the community as many residents were scared to enter the room.

Security operatives were immediately contacted, and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) moved to the scene, cordoning off the environment.

The operatives later interviewed the wife of the deceased and other residents before bringing down the body. Police personnel also joined in the investigation.

A resident told reporters, “The body was still hanging when the officers came. People were too afraid to go in. The NSCDC operatives asked questions from those in the house, including his wife, before the body was brought down.”

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Osun Command, Kehinde Adeleke, said information reached their Ilare Division at about 9:27 a.m. that Olajide had committed suicide.

Adeleke explained, “Information gathered from people living close to the deceased indicates that he had a misunderstanding with his wife on Wednesday night. People insinuated suicide; should that be taken to be true, what led to it is still hidden.”
