Ogun State House of Assembly has summoned the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Ola Oresanya, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Works, to appear before it over the recent fatal accident at Uren bridge, a link between Odogbolu and Ikenne Local Government Areas.

The officials are expected to appear before the Assembly on Tuesday, 12th August 2025 at 2.00pm.

The summons followed a motion raised by the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, during plenary on Wednesday, in which he reported that a deadly truck crash had occurred on the narrow and deteriorating Uren bridge, which he described as unsafe and long overdue for reconstruction.

Responding, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims.

He stressed the need for urgent action to prevent further tragedies, while noting that the condition of the bridge reflects the wider challenges confronting the state’s road infrastructure.

Elemide acknowledged the Ogun State Government’s efforts on massive infrastructural development but pointed out that the administration inherited a heavy backlog of decaying infrastructure, especially road networks, from past governments.

“We must commend the government’s ongoing projects, but we cannot ignore urgent issues like the Uren bridge. The lives of our people come first,” the Speaker said.

Earlier, Hon. Adeleye, speaking under personal explanation, praised the current road construction efforts in the state.

He urged the government to extend its rehabilitation works along the Ikenne–Mayflower corridor to include the Uren bridge, describing it as a crucial link for residents and motorists in the area.

The Assembly said the upcoming meeting with the commissioners and the governor’s aide would focus on evaluating the state of roads across Ogun, particularly high-risk areas, to ensure swift intervention where needed.
