Abiodun Lasile, the Orunto Baalufe of Owu Kingdom, has paid tribute to the late Olootu Abel Gbolahan Ogo-Oluwa Bankole, describing him as a man of native intelligence, resilience, and vision.

Olootu Bankole, who held the titles of Asiwaju Babalaje of Egbaland and Balogun Gbogbogbo 1 of Ibogunland, passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 76. He was a respected industrialist and Chairman of Mercyland International Schools and Premier Paints Plc.

In his tribute, Lasile recalled his long-standing relationship with the late business mogul, which began in 1983 during his time at NTA Abeokuta.

“Olootu Abel Bankole was a man of deep conviction, whose wisdom and strategic thinking set him apart. He carried his traditional titles with dignity and honor, never wavering in his commitment to progress,” Lasile stated.

He described the deceased as a pillar of culture and business who blended tradition with modern enterprise, ensuring his impact was felt across multiple sectors.

“Your life was a full moon circle—a masterpiece of intention and celebration. Every step you took was purposeful, every decision strategic, and every accomplishment a testament to your unwavering determination,” Lasile added.

Reflecting on their shared experiences, the Orunto of Owu Kingdom recounted how Olootu Bankole often relied on his native intelligence in times of challenges.

“Whenever we faced difficulties, he would form a tag team with me, and together we would navigate obstacles with foresight and wisdom. He was a true leader, a businessman with vision, and a cultural icon,” he said.

Beyond his professional achievements, Olootu Bankole was known for his strong social presence and commitment to his community. His death has left a significant void, not only in his immediate family but also in the business, educational, and traditional institutions he influenced.

“Olootu, omo Olowu Oduru, sleep well! You will be deeply missed, but your story will never fade,” Lasile concluded.
