A Police Inspector identified as Philemon Akawu has been killed by suspected hoodlums in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning near Yelwa Nono village, where the late officer had been deployed for internal security operations.
It was gathered that Inspector Akawu was ambushed in a bush close to the security camp around 7:30 am while performing his duties.
He was said to have been posted from the Department of Operations (DOPS) in Jos as part of reinforcement measures in response to rising security threats in the area.
Following the attack, the Divisional Police Officer in Bokkos visited the scene and coordinated the evacuation of the body, which was taken to Luna Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the killing.
